Just in case some of you RPG fiends haven't heard about this game yet, check out the info at their website (http://www.guildwars.com/). GW is very different from most ORPG's. As a matter of fact, it's not even really a MMORPG, it's more of a AORPG (action online RPG) or a CORPG (cooperative online RPG). The game has not yet gone retail, but is still in beta testing. They have BWE's (beta weekend events) once a month, where people with keycodes can login and play the game. I got a keycode when I bought a preorder copy of the game for $10 and have played 2 BWE's. I think the game is a blast and look forward to it's release.

To see some of the differences between this game and other ORPG's, see below:


First of all, there is a level cap at level 20.
There is less "grind" then in other ORPG's.
PvE adventures are instanced, so you and your party are the only adventurers you'll run into. Therefore, no kill stealing or anything can happen.
All loot is assigned to a party member, so another party member can't pick up that item.
The missions are made to be finished in approximately an hour, so you shouldn't have to spend hours and hours online to finish an objective.
Again, no monthly fee!


There's more, but I can't think of anything else at the moment. It's definitely a very fun experience. Another cool thing is that they plan to release expansion packs every 6 months or so. That means the world shouldn't stay static and new adventures, skills, characters and more will be introduced over time. I advise anyone interested to take a closer look at the game if they're interested.

For those of you who don't know, Guild Wars has a release date of 4/28/05, so it will be hitting retail in two weeks. Tomorrow starts the last open beta weekend event. Anyone who is interested, pick up a preorder copy at your local game shop and jump in. The preorder copy will cost anywhere between $1 and $10 and that money should apply towards the purchase of the retail game. This is a fun online RPG. I've played 3 BWE's and had a blast every time. Zwolf and I are going to play a couple times a week and if anyone else is interested we can get a group of 4 players or so going. If you're intersted, please PM me and we'll arrange some times to play... :D

I have a guest weekend beta code laying around somewhere. It will let you play one beta weekend. First PM get's it. All you have to do is create an account and log in with the number, download the client and you'll be able to play all weekend. The Beta weekend starts on Friday.

Actually I found the mmo that I truely enjoy. One of my main draw backs to guild now (thanks to wow) is that I can only picture the type of players that are going to be playing GW. All the 13 years old going around pking or kill stealing.

Well, see that's part of the beauty of guild wars. PvP has a bunch of that type, but then they also have a lot of FPS kinda people that like the fantasy setting. PvE is instanced, so you don't worry at all about PKing or kill stealing... ;)

Well, another BWE weekend has passed (sadly)... :(

I had a lot of fun playing and like a lot of the "final changes" I saw. I can't wait until the 28th when it's released. Trying to find a couple other people who are interested in playing though, cause going into an outpost and getting in a group of strangers doesn't always work out well. It's fun and sometimes better then using the bots (er, henchmen), but two more people to play regular with Zwolf and myself would be great... ;)

FFXI is slowing down for me, since most of the people we know are quitting like whatshisface, and my parents want to cancel their credit card that ffxi is on, so i might hit this up since it's free, sounds fun.

Very cool. I'll have to say it's what I was looking for. One thing I really like is that most missions are only around an hour long. For me, someone who is forced by circumstance to be a casual gamer, it's perfect. I can get on, play a mission and get to a new load point, then quit and play more another time. The graphics are nice, the gameplay seems smooth, there isn't too much lag and I'm having fun. Playing with other people online is pretty cool. Sometimes you get idiots in the group and sometimes you get very cool skilled people. So far I've been having a blast... :D

Seems like it would be good for me as well, but my second computer power supply exploded and took out a bunch of components and I have no money now. :mad: Hopefully i'll pick it up sometime soon.

That is cool. I just wish that there was a trail for it. I just kind of need my regular fix of swords and magic.

Agreed, but then again with no monthly fee I can fit it into my budget and it will free up $15 a month.

Yea thermodynamics. I hate it. It is a totally useless class in my field of study. If it wasnt for abet, I wouldn't be taking it that is for sure.

lol. I actually hooked up with 2 of my friends and we did the whole north wall quest again. Being lvl 11 make that thing a joke. I was just killing and going. Now if I can only finish that ******* ashes mission for 2k in xp. Im going to do it.

Anyways im now passed the frost wall. But unforunately I have alot of skills/mission i have to go do. I just finish the one where you have to find these 3 ruin statues for 1000xp. I had that mish for ever.

Nope. You pay $50 for the game but it has no monthly fee. So it is just like buying unreal of BF and paying online with everyone else. The only catch 22 to it being free this that they are going to be producing expansions every quarter I think that you can buy to get addition content. This is to help cover server and operation cost. Then again you dont have to buy the upgrades it you dont want to. But it has been my past experience that normally everyone looks for to the new content.
